A. J. Heimn 46, held in Los Angeles city jail, slit his eye balls with a penknife after fearing to face friends. He claimed to be connected with a well known family, had been drinking, and said he wanted to punish himself and find peace. He was treated at a revolving hospital.
In San Francisco on February 28 William Sanderson of Ontario Oregon and W W Concannon a local contractor fought on the main deck of the Huer Ventura after an alleged jostling of Mrs Sanderson. Sanderson allegedly struck Concannon breaking several teeth and drawing blood. Passengers intervened.
Dr. Friedmann again refuses to answer questions about the efficacy of his treatment as letters and telegrams seeking aid pour in. In Ottawa the government weighs sending a representative to New York to urge Friedmann to demonstrate his remedy in Canada. The House of Commons has asked the government to take that action.
Philadelphia February 28 five minutes before the presidential elects train arrived a broken rail was found. The train was flagged and held forty minutes while the track was repaired. Wilson is there to see his dentist.
Indianapolis Ind February 28 The Indiana senate passed the house corrupt practices act bill making it a crime for newspapers to publish any article or cartoon tending to expose to ridicule hatred or contempt of any person at any election. Penalty includes a fine from 300 to 1000 and imprisonment up to one year for each offense.
The 27th Oregon legislative session ends after five days of activity and near adjournment. Plans to revive the stalled session next Tuesday rely on a possible quorum, while guardsmen stay on duty to seal enrolled bills. Senators and representatives depart amid celebrations and lingering tensions from veto battles.
District Warden E F Averill sails to Jackson Hole Wyoming to secure a new elk shipment for the Oregon game reserve in Wallowa county. Fifteen elk were brought to Joseph last year. four died in transit, eleven thrived and a cow birthed a calf. The current lot will be kept in corrals at Joseph through winter and released when conditions permit.
Clarence Campbell alias Crandell was indicted for obtaining money under false pretense and pleaded guilty in Astoria Oregon. He was sentenced to one to seven years in the state penitentiary. Campbell edited the Astoria Plain-dealer which lasted only one issue after he passed a bogus check to a saloon proprietor.
Seattle Feb 28 Superior Judge Smith issued a statement in the continuing strike case enjoining picketing. He held the Industrial Workers had a right to exist and use picketing as a defense and blamed newspapers for the trouble on the streets before the Volman Tatl oring company where the strike is conducted.
Last night the Elks held a packed social session with nearly the entire membership present to hear officer nominations for the coming year and enjoy a lively program. The event featured bucking burros, a four round boxing bout, and various amateur exhibitions, with locals like George Gillette, James Kyle, James Connor, Thomas Smart, Frank Downey, and John Mumm displaying talent.

In El Paso on February 28 General Diaz declared his candidacy for president of Mexico. De La Barra named as his likely principal opponent. In Coahuila Governor Carranza’s forces routed two hundred federal troops and seized Monclova, signaling another major battle as federal units move north.
The case centered on the Young estate and Mabel Warner’s long bid to seize property through forged will claims. Months have passed since Nora Watts received the estate while neighbors say Mabel has vanished possibly to Spokane with her son. The public dispute appears settled as funds and prospects waned.
San Francisco February 28 Detective McGrath said John Considine theatrical magnate charged with contributing toward an exhibition offense to public decency has not been arrested. Considine reportedly headed for Sacramento en route to Seattle and police wired Sacramento to intercept him.

Washington reports that a Senate foreign relations sub committee released its Los Angeles and New Orleans testimony review. It presented statements from Mexican leaders and complaints by American property owners, plus secret service evidence. The panel, without recommendations, notes it aimed to show American capitalists promoted warfare in Mexico and members are convinced Wall Street interests assisted the Madero government in exchange for oil and railroad investment favors.
