Japan Receives Record Portland Canned Meat Shipment
Three hundred tons of canned beef will be shipped to Japan aboard the steamer Numantia, arriving from the Orient Saturday. The Chicago meat is for the Japanese army's use, marking the port's largest canning consignment to the Far East. Portland–Asiatic officials say more tonnage would be needed for rising Orient trade, with no plan yet for a new steamer.
