Pendleton Market Seeks Cattle as Beef Prices Stagnate
Pendleton Meat Co. eyes cattle purchases beyond local supplies while the Portland market remains near last year's levels. Extra choice steers fetch seven cents a pound, average a touch above six and a half with freight, but growers face slim profit as last fall's higher costs linger. Heavy Portland day shelves, with bids from farms across Oregon and Idaho, reflect broad market activity.
