Conflicting reports reach Bluefields on the Nicaragua conflict. Observers believe the insurgent victory over President Madriz has toppled the administration and that the provisional government will be formalized with the occupation of Managua. Telegrams from General Estrada say the revolutionists will seize the capital tomorrow.
Washington reports dispatched from General Estrada claiming three days of fierce fighting end with a decisive rebel victory. Generals Mena and Zeledon said to have destroyed Madriz forces in Chontales. government commanders Vasquez Godoy Mata and Gonzales killed. Chamorro near Managua holds strategic leverage, diplomats say.
Telegrams from the front report a rebel victory with General Mena claiming the rout of government forces at San Vicente and Granda in rebel hands. The steamer Victoria is said captured and General Arelia Estrada with 1000 men joined Chamorro, marching northward toward Nicaragua. Chamorro's precise location remains unknown.
Aurora Illinois February 24. Frank Raymer and Frank Baxter are under arrest on hog stealing charges. Three other men have been arrested on the same charge. The group chloroformed hogs in farm country, then loaded them into wagons and drove them to market.
Washington Feb 24 All traffic halted for an hour as President Taft slept at Union Station. The train reached at 7:30 am from New Ark and yardmaster ordered no whistles bells or couplings until the president finished his sleep.
In Hot Springs Arkansas on February 23 a jail delivery freed 22 prisoners by sawing bars. A. Conlin alias P A Daniels led the breakout after being held for a San Francisco detective and a grand larceny charge. Sheriff Houpt and officers pursued two men toward Little Rock. Conlin's brother Co B Conklin was later arrested.

Ellensburg Washington February 24 Louia James and company reached here after presenting The Merchant of Venice in a snowbound car last night. The car was trapped in the mountains as passengers endured cold and confinement before two rotary plows and shovelers freed the train at daylight. James had completed a Seattle engagement and was to perform here last night.

W Duniway of Portland won the second block of 300 points in the 1000 point 14.2 inch balk line amateur championship. He defeated W G Johnson of Seattle with a 26 percent score, unfinished run of 21 in the seventh inning, high run 26 in the 47th inning, and a tonight average of 6 18 47. Johnson’s high runs were 50 in the third, 40 in the 22nd, and 45 in the 30th. The match standings show Duniway leading 600 to 534 with averages 6 40 112 and 4 94 110 respectively.

The interior department under Secretary Ballinger set aside about 44 626 acres near Green River Colorado as a temporary power site for water power development. The area had been withdrawn earlier under the reclamation act from entry on the basis of potential power.
