Salem Theaters Exempt From Sunday Closing

Salem Oregon February 23 The house expressed itself in favor of a fat salary for the state printer by passing Senator Miller's bill to place that official on a 3500 per year salary after 107. Orton asked what the state would do for a printing plant and suggested appropriating 100 for a plant. The idea to appoint a state examiner of public officers and public offices to inspect accounts was debated and buried. Theaters will be exempt from the Sunday closing law per Senate bill No 128 as amended. A ban on selling explosives to children under 14 was discussed. The governor would sign Senate bills affecting court terms and salaries, with provisions to add a second term at Pendleton and raise salaries to 4500 for supreme justices. A bill to constitute Baker County as the eighth judicial district passed, though concerns over cost were raised. Senator Pierce's measure to elect the county assessor for four years also passed the house.
