City moves to pave Webb Street with hard surface
City council last night passed resolutions to improve Webb Street from Cottonwood to Court with a 34 foot wide hard surface pavement and the same street between Malin and Gordon. The engineer will prepare estimates for other streets and residents will have ten days to protest after further action. Dr. Temple urged paving Main Street between Bluff and the hill foot to ease mudholes, a plan referred to the street committee. The health officer said community health is unusually good with only German measles a few isolated cases. Fire and sewer committees proposed extending water mains, adding hydrants and standpipes at Round-Up Park and building a manhole on Alta Street to connect city hall sewer mains.

Municipal Ownership of Light Plant Proposed
City faces push for a municipal electric plant amid rising fuel costs and shrinking private power supply. Proponents argue a city run plant would reduce heat costs, free power from taxes, and allow the city to dictate new terms to the current provider Pacific Power and Light. Milton and McMinnville shows suggest strong potential, with Pendleton figures showing 2000 horsepower capacity and annual net income near 13,750 after expenses and interest. A special committee was formed for a one month option and investigation.
