An advertisement extols Cuticura Ointment as the best cure for skin disfigurement and hair loss, claiming a single ointment application after a hot bath with Cuticura Soap and a dose of Cuticura Resolvent Pills provides immediate relief. It promises speedy healing when other remedies fail, urging use of the full Cuticura line.
A land office contest over 280 acres along the Columbia at White Bluffs ended with Register Coleman canceling Waring’s 1901 entry for lack of good faith. Patton may acquire the property, with neighboring land selling at 200 to 300 dollars per acre. City preparations for spring labor, sewer and paving contracts project 400 workers by April.
The county assessor Lindall says if the county board approves, all timber in Yakima county will be taxed under the spring assessment in line with a resolution from the recent state auditors convention. He notes timber is not an especially large item for the county.
In Alba Oregon a half million logs are stockpiled by Ora Arbogast for higher future mill output as winter eases. Forester Wright surveys new forest reserve lines while a ranger will enforce forestry orders next summer. J. M. Keene, 68, Upper Naches, was kicked in the head by a horse Monday night. Both skull plates fractured and brain exposed. scalp torn. Despite heavy bleeding and blindness, he crawled to his porch 200 feet away. Found by family, he is reported as doing as well as can be expected. He does not recall how the accident happened.
A 1910 era ad praises Doun's Kidney Pills as a remedy for backache and kidney trouble, citing Mrs. H. D. Coger of La Grande Oregon. It claims pills relieve back pain and regulate kidneys and asks readers to buy from Foster-Milburn Co. Also notes John L. Sharpstein appointed by Governor Mead to study eastern Washington fish preservation and salmon protection plans.
A snow slide crushed the Delmonico hotel in Sumpter, Oregon, leaving only walls as proof of the fortune chasing era. The misfortune recalls mining deals and eastern Oregon's boom times when money moved with mail orders and graft flourished. Tradition says the hotel opened with a wedding feast for a young couple.
