New York February 18 The Rev Minot J Savage in the Utkanan church of the Messiah spoke on race, saying the future of the republic is threatened by mixing and the white and black peoples should be kept separate. He urged dispersal of Black Americans into small towns and self government under American methods. Dr George P Eckman at St Pauls ME church appealed for funds to assist education and uplift for whites and blacks and argued Lincoln was Christian in spirit though his political positions were contested.

Louisville Ky Feb 18 Phil Re cine a well known baseball pitcher died at the state insane asylum where he had been confined for years. In July 1894 while pitching for Spokane against Seattle he was struck on the head by a ball, an injury that impaired his mind and led to his asylum confinement. Recius pitched for Cleveland in 1896 and 1891 and earlier joined Jake Hart on the Pacific coast. His greatest fame came in 1800 at Laviteville where he pitched Detroit to the world championship. He also won by a score of 3 to 0. The article notes his age and other scattered details from a damaged report.
