Fifty Years In Prison The Pierce Case In New York
Fifty years ago William Pierce of Franklin County New York murdered his father and was sentenced to life in Auburn prison. He spent most of his life behind bars with transfers to an asylum, never meeting friends, and was pardoned by Governor Hill though nonrecovering mentally. The article recalls the era before Auburn and insanity defenses were widely recognized.
