Francisco police report a bank robber gang of eight seized a club, held victims at gunpoint, and stole about 5 600 dollars before escaping as bystanders watched. Officers later detained a few suspects while others remained at large.
Portland Feb 13 Articles of incorporation for the Deschutes Irrigated Land Company were filed to secure water rights in Crook county and contract with estate and federal governments for arid land reclamation. Incorporators are Wm A Manley George H Hill and E F B Holmes with $2 500 000 capital.
La Grande Feb 13. Arrangements are underway for a farmers institute at Imbler with leading state agriculturists to attend. Grand Ronde farmers are enthusiastic and well attended in past meetings. The last institute at La Grande in March was hailed as highly successful.
Vienna dispatch notes an interview with the Macedonian Saraf om claiming a million dollar fund to renew Balkans war early spring. It also alleges Bulgaria is preparing to join insurgents. Schoenthal works Brunau reportedly delivers 10,000,000 cartridges and several million in other arms to Bulgaria for the effort.
W F Matlock and Charles Brown field plan a two story pressed brick building on Main Street between the Rader tearmisher store and Bow fie building. It will be 100 feet by 100 feet, cost about 86000, with space on the first floor for three tenants and flexible upstairs for a hall or boarding rooms. Construction to begin around mid April after plans are drawn and contracts awarded.
Government agent from Portland and Chinese interpreter Seid Gam visit Pendleton this afternoon to adjust claims among Chinese residents. Wah Ying Chung plans to leave the state seeking business adjustments. Sam Wah also prepares to depart to Washington state requiring attention from the authorities.

Lee Teutsch returns to Umatilla country from a three week trip to the East where he shopped for spring and summer stock. He rode via St. Paul Omaha Minneapolis and Denver and found the West milder though cold weather continues. He notes crops are endangered and depend on a heavy moisture fall, but Umatilla county remains the best part of the country in his view. He is glad to be home again.
An Illustrated Baker City Herald report notes Captain Storer Tice clashing with Daniel Tweedie the traveling solicitor for the San Francisco Examiner after Tweedie asked about a subscription. An exchange over Hearst led to a street confrontation between the two men last evening.
In front of the Gelser Grand Buffet, a newspaper man helped land the captain to an advantage. Reports say the housepaper man emerged victor in the fight, suggesting a clear winner.
At a meeting of the Republican state central committee in Portland yesterday the elite convention was decided to be held there on April 14. The convention will consist of 361 delegates with nine counties, including Umatilla, not represented at the central committees meeting. Umatilla County will be entitled to 16 delegates in the state convention.
At Assembly Hall last evening the Pendleton public schools eighth grade staged an entertaining program. The stage was neatly decorated by the clans and the exercises were well prepared and received. The pupils are gaining a reputation as entertainers.
The county will plant about one acre behind the Morrow county courthouse with shade and ornamental trees to create a park. Judge T. W. Ayers has ordered 280 locust trees to be planted as weather allows. The site backs the court house golf area and will benefit from water to support trees and lawn.
William J Lemp multimillionaire brewer shot himself at his palatial home after grieving over his son and a close friend Captain Pabst. He died an hour later after being found in convulsions. The brewery closed and flags were at half mast. He left a family note and is survived by three daughters and other relatives.
The body of a man was found this morning around 8 in an old house in Weiser Idaho. The occupant who rented the building claimed to be Will H Johnson from Lewiston and in ill health. A jury viewed the scene in the absence of a coroner. A pocketbook held 23.50 cash and a 3000 draft payable to William Lane with no endorsement.
Seattle reports the State Federation of Labor boycott on Frye Bruhn products will have little impact as the local butchers union opted not to boycott. They will, however, avoid purchasing non labeled meat, applying pressure by choosing only union labeled goods. In Harrisburg, politicians await the Saline County Republican convention results to decide delegates, with Governor Yates supporters pushing for victory and opponents seeking his defeat.
Baker City traveler W Clair Smith faced Pendleton authorities for a $193 hotel board bill. After conferring with Sheriff Harvey K Brown, Smith paid $140 including costs and left. Smith had a prior Baker City incident with a $60 hotel bill.
Portland Feb 13 The board in charge of canal right of way at The Dalles believes O R N officials will concede the right of way without court action after conferences. Government engineers and the state board feel the proposition near settlement as the canal will not interfere with their interests.
The Hague February 18 The Vene cueian Arbitration Tribunal convened to consider the judgment in the appeal of the blockading powers seeking protective and humane treatment. Sittings focused on legal arguments and potential remedies in the disputed case.
A district attorney led a crackdown on pimbling with 39 arrests. Most transient operators had left town. residents were arraigned before Judge Bilis. Fifty to sixty dollar fines were imposed on first offenders, with some defendants pleading guilty or not guilty as the court met.
J A Wood delivered a carload of horses to the O R N yards for temporary renting while en route from the range near Elgin to Walla Walla where they will be sold to farmers. Wood is a noted stockman moving stock from the Bl ein country to Washington with no speculation. South Australia reports 8 500 000 bushels of wheat available for export from the latest harvest.
Great Snow Blockade report from Sacramento dated February 13 describes the Central Pacific railroad line blocked between Sacramento and Truckee. A freight train was ditched at Ashburn, snow sheds collapsed at several points, and all wires are down cutting communication eastward.
