Prison engineer commits suicide after attack on niece
Seattle, Wish. Feb 10. George E. Merrill an 51 year old engineer, fearing prison for an attempted assault on his young niece Mary Coates, drank carbolic acid on the street near his home. He attacked the girl near the woodshed and threatened her with a knife before neighbors arrived and he killed himself.

Conductor Killed In Sudden Train Stop Tragedy
A conductor died when a train halted abruptly and crushed his head and severed limbs. No witness reported the event, but the brakeman found the remains shortly after. Coroner Folsom was notified and left for the scene with a jury aboard a special train.

Train Conductor Killed In Kamela to Pendleton Crash
John P. Donnelly, 25 to 30, conductor of freight train No 56, was killed when he was thrown under the cars during a sudden stop near Kamela about four to five hundred yards from the station. The train split into four pieces and the engineer delayed for a signal. the brake man found the body beneath wheels. Donnelly, long a railroad employee, had earlier worked in La Grande laundry. He had married Lizzie Geek last summer and was a member of the Order of Railway Conductors.

Everett Washington February 10 Engineer John Lenahan is dead and Fireman Carl Bloom is missing likely dead after the Great Northern Owl train locomotive exploded near Mukilteo this morning. Passengers were uninjured as the engine was hurled over a steep embankment and Lenahan was thrown into the Sound.
