The Sioux at Pine Ridge plan to send a delegation to Washington with a protest against moving pictures of the reenacted Wounded Knee battle being archived as authentic. They say General Miles did not participate on the field and Buffalo Bill was distant during the fight. Three chiefs will carry the formal protest to Washington.
New York Feb 7 Frederick Vanderbilt his wife and the Duke of Manchester with other members of his party arrived on the fruit steamer Almirante, transferring from the Vanderbilt yacht Warrior wrecked on the Colombian coast.
Manaxquan lifesaving crew stands by to aid the crew of the English steamship Queen Loulae ashore off Squan Beach New Jersey in a heavy gale. The vessel drifted all night with a disabled rudder and grounded at 4:30 AM. Twenty aboard, led by Captain McDonough, are in good condition and ready to assist if a rescue chance remains.
Salem Oregon Feb 7 Attorney General McReynolds advised Governor West that the government has decided to sue to dissolve the Southern Pacific and Central Pacific railroads. The suit will be instituted without delay after long deliberation and in reply to West's request for further hearings.
A sharp deep freeze and light snow fell in Union valley over two days. Temperatures plumbed the winter low, but clear days afterward promised more cold. Sudden frost halted fruit buds and ice harvests loom for the town with ice men preparing for the season. Some carloads have already moved from North Powder.

Railroads and steel affiliates will be served with notice of the probe. David Lamar inspired the resolution as the investigation moves forward within four weeks.
Walla Walla High School beat Pendleton 41 to 29 in a hard fought home game. Pendleton trailed 22 to 11 at halftime but surged in the second half before Walla Walla secured the victory as Otto Houser served as referee.
Washington February 7 Bryan seeks Tokio consent to a Japanese exclusion act like the Chinese exclusion law. High authority says California alien land law blocks progress.
