Demand Adopted For Teachers Minimum Salary In Oregon

Portland December 20 Adoption of a demand for a minimum teachers salary of 1050 a year and endorsement of a movement to bring before the special session of the legislature next month were accomplished at the opening session of the Oregon State Teacher association. The voting was by non technical delegates from every section of the state. General session did not open until today when 000 teachers were expected to be in attendance. Committees were appointed, with Superintendent Geers of McMinnville as chairman, to prepare measures for presentation to representatives and senators. The chairman urged teachers to carry home propaganda for the measure. He said the legislature is unlikely to act unless the people favor the plan, and if referred to the people and they approve the plan the 6 percent limitation will be repealed. He concluded that efforts would be made to push the measure forward.
