Pendleton Man Jailed Ten Days For Harassment Of Two Girls

C. J. Stockdale of Pendleton will serve ten days in the city jail after a police court trial. He accosted two Hugh school girls yesterday afternoon, followed them for blocks, and called them prostitutes while asking their destination. Officers arrested him after the girls were seen watching from behind a tree and a bystander notified authorities. Stockdale claimed he was seeking a former friend and a Peters house but offered no clear reason for pursuing the girls.

Cow's Pitchfork Injury Fatal to Farmer Near Echo

Chris Roberts a 40 year old farmer of Umatilla county died at 7 Welock after a cow kicked a pitchfork handle, driving tines into his abdomen while he cleaned a barn stall. He succumbed at home near Echo three and a half miles from the Umatilla river. Survived by a widow and three children.

Mercantile man slays seven of his family then hangs himself

In Renton Arkansas on December 28 James Grant, driven by deep despair, killed his wife, five children aged five to 16, and a stepson with a heavy club, then hanged himself. The bodies were found last night, Hugh Grant, 16, discovering them after returning from a holiday visit. A note from Grant cited despair and belief his family would be better off in heaven.
