Move to Increase Northwest Dairy Products District
In eastern Washington and Oregon, northern Idaho, western Montana, and southeastern British Columbia, officials will decide early next year how to locate dairy development in communities now sending more than 14,000,900 annually for dairy products. W. J. Lingdon, president of the Washington State Dairymen's Association, cites about 195,000 dairy cows in the state, while David Brown of the Hagelwood company of Spokane says 50,000 cows are needed in the district and his firm would buy the output of 100,000. He notes vast cut-over timber lands in the four states and Canada with forage to support dairy output at low cost. The district's dairy product value in 1910 is placed at 9,000,000 and should be not less than 25,000,000, with no overproduction expected for years. A suspect in Pendleton was nabbed after trying to pass forged checks at multiple stores on Majin street and a hotel. Officers say the man used checks made out to Michael Neal and George Mitchell bearing the name Alford Smith, and may be part of a two man operation.
