Portland December 24 J H Morton A B Hammond and Robert Rae were arrested on blue sky charges. Morton allegedly sold stock in United Sates Deaquarter company without a state license. Rea and Hammond are accused of acting as officers in the sale. Corporation officials say the company has no assets beyond a pending patent for an evaporation machine for fruit and fish. If the patent fails, stockholders lose their investments.
Washington December 24 A joint resolution by Representative Adamson of Georgia would conditionally suspend the free passage provision of the Panama Canal Act for two years after canal opening. The plan ties exemption to toll revenue sufficiency and traffic conditions, with executive order to apply if upheld. The measure is an administration proposal not to go before Congress, with polite avoidance of policy declarations since President Wilson took office.
Ottke files $2900 damages against Frank Pedro Ottke alleging his aug dog bit and mauled him on July 5 injuring leg and causing pain mental anguish and loss of wages. Portland, Ore. Dec. 24. E. B. Von Klein, accused jewel swindler and bigamist, showed broken nerve after a jury found him guilty of living polygamously with Miss Ethel Newcomb. Judge Kavanaugh set sentencing for Friday at 10 am and granted 15 days to file a motion for a new trial.
Albany Dec 24 Former Senator Towne attorney for D H Tolman the notorious loan shark whose offices were in many cities appeared before Governor Glynn and urged that Tolman be pardoned. Towne brought papers claiming loans totaling about a half million dollars. Glynn denied special handling and Tolman remains sentenced to six months in prison.

Washington officials receive bronze framed pictures as Christmas presents from peace advocate Andrew Carnegie. The image shows a soldier bidding goodbye to his daughter with the girl asking if he will kill another father's child. Cabinet members, including Secretary of War Garrison, receive the same gift as a peace message.
