The Retail Cig ar & Tobacco Dealers' Association of Greater New York votes to stop buying new American Tobacco Co brands after January 1, 1904. They will remove ads and keep the company’s products off shelves where possible, display placards of independence, and seek labor support to pressure the company.
A noon blaze at Mickory near Asheville North Carolina destroyed a business block causing an estimated loss of about 4000 dollars. Fire brigades from nearby towns responded but the damage was heavy and several stores were damaged or scorched. The cause is not yet known and authorities continued investigations.
Caracas reports its detention by an Italian gunboat resulted from a misinterpretation of blockade orders. London notes the death of Frederick Temple, archbishop of Canterbury, at age 81.
