The Pendleton market shows a steady course with few small advances. Corn for immediate delivery trades at 61 while futures hover around 99.25 to 62.50, barley ranges 71.50 to 74, and mill feed moves to 44. Potatoes rise to 4 a sack as prices shift due to cold weather, with expectations of higher prices before winter.
Turkeys are not so plentiful as last Thanksgiving season but local poultry men expect prices to ease and supplies to rise by Christmas. The report notes tighter supply now while forecasts call for better availability later in December.
Vegetables are being slipped into the area as shipping restrictions ease, with a full holiday supply expected. Prices vary: head lettuce 16 to 20 cents, celery 15 to 20 cents, cauliflower 34 to 40 cents, sprouts 0 per pound, artichokes 10 to 25 cents, cucumbers 28 cents each. Tomatoes not yet arrived but anticipated soon.
Portland December 1. Semi official at the O W R N offices Union Pacific officials decided to eliminate the office of traffic manager on the O W when the railroads return to private management. Frank W. Robinson, current traffic manager for the local unit, will become freight traffic manager for the system at Omaha. No successor named and the post will not be filled. H F Lounsbury and William McMurray would split traffic duties for the district, with larger problems sent to system officials.
