Glenwood Springs Colo December 16 An explosion at the Vulcan mine in New Castle ten miles away caused heavy loss of life. Forty two men were reportedly inside when the blast occurred and rescuers searched the workings for about thirty minutes. Authorities fear all in the mine were killed instantly.
Aaron K R Cooley a 47 year old San Francisco brewer was arrested in Salem Oregon on charges tied to the 16 year old Van Pelt murder in Curry County. The probe could involve prominent Oregon and Washington families. The case recalls the unsolved Coolidge slaying linked to Silverton kin and a prior accusation against Van Pelt. District Attorney Brown and Detective Doyle gathered the evidence, with Governor West noted as aware of the investigation.
