Aboard the NLL for a pilot voyage preparations are under way for a large welcome at the terminus. The excursion includes Lemense Pro portion Pendicton and other county sections to be represented. Pilot Hock’s people plan entertainment for expected guests with a band and a coyote hunt and a large dinner as features.
A Pilot Rock excursion by train departs O. R. & N. depot at 9:00 AM every Monday reaching Pilot Rock by 10:00 AM. Return leaves Pilot Rock at 1:59 PM, arriving in Pendleton around the evening time. Round trip fare is 65 cents. Women are urged to attend. a Pilot Rock women’s committee will receive passengers.
The Pilot Rock excursion on the R N branch swells to large proportions with Pendleton leaders and county residents expected. A 4:30 AM departure Monday from Co R K N depot and a 1:40 PM return plan three hours in Pilot Rock. The Pilot Rock Record in red ink invites visitors to celebrate regular train service on the Umatilla Central and thanks Harriman for tapping a rich Oregon region.
Washington December 14 reports an order directing letters addressed to Santa Claus be sent to regularly organized charitable institutions rather than the dead letter office. The change aims to have children’s wishes forwarded to charitable groups for potential assistance.

The east bound No 6 Oregon and Washington train was delayed eight hours today by a freight wreck near The Dalles last night. The passenger train was west of the wreck and could not pass until the track was cleared and did not reach the city until after 9 this afternoon.
Harry Orchard tells guards he will not be swayed as Darrow and Borah clash in court. Darrow’s cross examination aims to discredit him while Borah resists interruptions. Adams will not be used as a witness in the Pettibone case. Orchard endures the grilling amid Bradley affair references.

A music teacher in Russell raised alarm, scattering the thieves who tied to flee with some loot. A justice of the peace office was also looted in Ainsworth. Earlier, book canvassers visited both buildings, leading investigators to suspect the same gang.
Salt Like December 14 Patrolman Charles Ford was shot and probably fatally injured by robbers as they fled a hotel bar. Officers pursued the suspects after the assault and shooting.
Chicago experiences a severe blizzard described as the worst in years, bringing a complete stoppage to city traffic and disrupting telegraphic communication as of December 14.
Attorneys for the Washington sheepmen failed to stipulate the facts to move the cases to Judge Bean for a bench trial. The Commercial Club reports 27 membership applications to Librarian Nye as the drive gains momentum. Applicants include Herbert A. Ruppe, B. C. Wilken, EB Fisher, John Siebert, J. S. Landers, J. H. Estes, and Tracy Baker among others. Two months rule allows admission without the $5 initiation fee, but monthly dues must be paid in advance before the January meeting.
Walla Walla December 14 Oregon flock owners pressed Pendleton to remove Supervisor J M Behmits of the Wenaha forest reserve. The dispute centers on allotment of Wenaha territory to Washington sheepmen, with Washington officials and Schmitz backing his handling and Oregon opposition threatening counter forces.
London Dec 14 The seven masted schooner T W Lawson chartered to Standard Oil was driven off course by gales and wrecked near Seldrysland with only one survivor believed. Three bodies have been recovered as a light vessel floated bottom side up in an oiled sea. The crew numbered twenty on passage from Philadelphia to London. New York Dec 14 Bank statement favorable but market little changed with silver down a point and copper and steel steady.
Rev. James Hays, a Nez Perce from Kamiah Idaho, completed a two month evangelistic tour across eastern Oregon southern Idaho and northern Nevada. He reports many Bannocks Plutes Shivetts and other tribes embracing Christianity and forming churches and self support. He preaches at the Tutuilla Presbyterian mission on the Umatilla reservation and predicts rapid Christianization reducing government aid needs.
A C Ruby attends Pendleton accompanied by Mr McCallum from Portland where Ruby is active in the horse trade. McCallum recently spent months in Alberta overseeing a horse shipment.
Pendleton sees its busiest fall day as every store fills with shoppers. Special sales are crowded with bargain hunters and merchants report high activity across the city.
