Refugee in Lone Shack Frozen Feet After Night in Snow

A 36 year old refugee, Dehn Murphy, was found near a lonely shack southeast of Echo suffering exposure with both feet frozen. He was carried to Echo hospital after being discovered near a bonfire beside a railroad track. Local resident William Heath assisted, hoping feet could be saved, though experts cautioned at first that planning weather would thaw.

A state survey reported by Pred Bennion shows hay prices elevated but supply not scarce. Of 117 stockmen surveyed, 50 said supply normal, 13 reported a shortage. eight of 35 saw a 1–10% rise since 1918, while 24 noted 5–23% declines. Crook and Baker counties report half the normal cattle on feed and a stock decrease of about 5% with calf numbers at a ten-year low.
