The census reports the United States population at 16,000,000, a 21 percent gain. Washington state posts a 120 percent rise with three new congressmen. Oregon becomes the thirty sixth state in the Union.

The census reports a national population of 91,972,266 in the United States with territorial possessions reaching 99,402,182. Gains vary by state with Wisconsin and Georgia adding congressmen, Alaska and Hawaii showing modest rises, and New York state holding the largest population. Washington ranks thirteenth and several western states near the back of the list.
Seattie Wash December 10. The directors of the Alaska Yukon exposition announce a dividend of $20,000 ready for distribution among stockholders. In addition the exposition left a million dollars worth of improvements for the University of Washington.
London dispatches report from Pall Mall Gazette unconfirmed claims that Monaco rebels deposed the Prince and established a municipal council as the new governing body, potentially making Monaco the world’s smallest republic. In Rio de Janeiro a five hour bombardment by loyal Brazilian ships and shore batteries ended the second navy revolt. Mutineers surrendered at noon and the garrison was arrested. Thousands watched as the red flag was shot down. Ringleaders likely face execution.

New York December 10 ship ping men are told to watch for the steamer Arcadia which left New Orleans October 11 for San Juan Porto Rico and is now missing. It is feared the vessel was wrecked or sunk. The ship carried four passengers and a crew of thirty seven.
Jersey City December 10 James Gallagher who shot Mayor Gaynor may not face trial. Physicians examining him report demented movements and he will likely be sent to an asylum.
In Havana Cuba on December 10 a night earthquake caused damage in the area. Local officials noted effects across the vicinity with no immediate reports of injuries.
Merle R Chessman was summoned to Portland this afternoon by the sudden death of his brother's wife Mrs Vv G Chessman in that city.
Oswego reports two days of exposure as ten survivors and twenty crew members were rescued from the lake steamer Sharples near Galloup Island after a Thursday storm. The vessel struck rocks, lifeboats were crushed, and rescuers reached Galloup lighthouse just in time to save those on board.
The house approved the rivers and harbors appropriation bill carrying 21 million dollars after a brief debate. Only one amendment was adopted before adjournment until Monday. The money will benefit the Pacific coast including the Columbia River and Grays Harbor improvements.
