Hayes alias Jack DeForest was arrested in Pendleton at noon by Marshal Tom Gurdane on burglary charges. The Baker City wanted man rode the train into town, eluding Deputy Bert Wilson as the train sped past. Hayes was apprehended at gunpoint near the depot after a dramatic chase witnessed by many.
Portland Dee 1. Multnamat county Ja is in a deareh for the bandits who robbed the Bye Side bank of $14,000 Monday. The Pinkertons have joined the pursuit and local police moved to the Bankers' position, with evidence of an arrest within 48 hours.
Omaha Neb Dec 10 Charles Davis was acquitted of murder in a triple death pact linked to the killing of Dr Frederick Rustin. Prosecution star witness Mrs Addie Rice applauded the verdict stating she was glad and that doubt remained whether Davis killed Rustin. One juror reportedly held out for manslaughter after 19 ballots. Davis thanked the jurors.
A bomb dropped from a neighboring roof wrecked a five story tenement in New York. Twenty were injured yesterday with five in critical condition. Investigators report a Mockhand agent carried out the attack amid Blackhand anger over contributions to a local fund.

In Los Angeles on December 10 two Japanese men fought over a white woman in a restaurant. One, Rinxo Kashara, a Redlands domestic, shot rival Raku Takahasu four times, wounding him seriously. Takahasu had been a San Bernardino restaurant proprietor. Kashara worked as a waiter for King. Kashara allegedly came to sing his rival.
Judge Memenger of the circuit court ruled against the state in a New York Life Insurance Co suit testing state and county authority to tax premiums paid and sent outside the state. The case involved about 175 dollars and could affect every insurance company in South Carolina unless overturned by the state Supreme Court.
In Jackson County MO three judges sat in court after a sensational squabble yester day when Judge Moss pulled Judge Judd's nose. The dispute began over legal points and Moss allegedly accused Judd of seeking a spot in Roosevelt's Ananias club. Moss grabbed Judd and restrained him by the nose.
Salem Oregon December 1 When wardens counted the penitentiary trusties Monday evening Aaron Ridge an inmate from Umatilla county serving a larceny sentence was found missing He had been employed in the prison stables and had only a short time to serve A city wide organized search was begun for him and he was 20 years old.
O D Teel of Echo will lease 135 acres of prime alfalfa land within a half mile of Echo to Henrietta Milling Company for four years at fifteen dollars per acre. The company will manage the property at no cost to Teel and pay semi annual rent of 1013.50. The lease marks the highest rent paid in Umatilla County for a large tract and the mill will process alfalfa into meal. The land is among the district’s best and is expected to yield about seven tons per acre.
Dublin reports a pension fraud scandal halting new payments until safeguards are installed. Authorities estimate 152000 eligible over 70, yet 193000 have applied for weekly 5 shillings, with hundreds more demands expected as fraud evidence emerges.
Major E F Judd of Hartford leaves an estate valued at about a half million dollars to four nephews and nieces. F E Judd of this city receives $75,000 to $100,000 and each of the other two sisters and brother receive similar legacies. The will also directs $50,000 to Hartford charities. The estate includes stock in E Judd & Root and awaits administration. Judd was a U S Army pigmaster and major, died in Hartford several weeks ago.

San Francisco December 10 S W Chun a Korean suspect in the murder of Durham White Stevens last March has been missing for four months. The district attorney disclosed Chun is a fugitive while Chang Whah Chang faces trial that began recently. Chun was released on own recognizance in July.
Keith McLaughlin formerly of Wallowa Ore died at a friend’s home in Ellensburg Wash after eating supper in a Chinese restaurant. Authorities suspect ptomaine poisoning as the cause of death.
