Congress ends its session with adjournment to honor deceased members. Speaker Cannon receives a noisy demonstration as senators reference the late W. P. Allison. Townsend of Michigan emerges as a candidate for Cannon's seat amid the memorials and tributes.

Oregon wool growers plan to leave Pendleton on Tuesday January 12 for Pocatello Idaho to attend the national woolgrowers convention. The trip will take a special Pullman car collecting Oregon men at all points through the state. The meeting, urged by Secretary Dan Smythe of the Oregon association, will cover tariffs hovels and freight rates, forest preservation, grazing and pest control, and central storage and market movement. The Mid Winter Sheep Show will be held in conjunction with the meeting with premiums totaling 1500 and a valuable silver cup. More than four hundred animals are entered and show records are expected to be broken.
President Lewis of the United Mine Workers of America faces renewed scrutiny as he denounces opponents as the worst enemies of the labor movement. He vows to expose them at the next annual convention and warns that those who damage his name will face penalties.

Washington Dec 7 The Navy and other departments seek $824.41 million to run the government next year with War and Navy leading at $234.08 million and $137. A push for large allocations includes navy ordnance seven million, forts and defenses over 17 million, and improvements for Puget Sound and Mare Island yards so battleships of deepest draft can dock for repairs.
San Franesco December 7 Theodore Hatses, indicted publicity officer for the Pacific States Telephone company, was denied a one month continuance in the case against him though doctors report he is suffering from tuberculosis.
An unmasked bandit attempted a bank holdup at First National Bank in Ellensburg Washington shortly after opening. He demanded gold and silver but was refused by the assistant cashier. The bandit fired a shot wounding the cashier in the arm and fled, with a posse in pursuit.
San Francisco police report handwriting expert Kytka linked the letter sent to Harry Bous with the stomach powders that killed him to John Walter Wilson, an electrical worker employed by Bous. The disguise failed, highlighting Wil son’s peculiar handwriting. Wilson is under arrest and a murder charge will be filed.
Bristol dispatch reports Ema RR Cheaborough a well known Rhode Island society figure and confidante of Mrs. John D Rockefeller Jr. shot herself twice in the head this morning. Illness and loneliness are cited as causes while her husband Albert S. Yacht, a designer, is abroad in Europe.
Frank J. Quinlan, popular O R N agent for two years, has been transferred from the post. BE. F. P. Schuvier, former agent at Talon, assumes duties at once. Quinlan requests a month’s leave and may travel east before re locating. Friends regret the move, noting his courteous service and leadership in Knights of Pythias and Elks.
A special agent checks the La Grande land office accounts of A A Roberts receiver. Accounts described as mixed with fear of a possible shortage. Roberts, relations deny criminal wrongdoing and say he is a nervous wreck over his wife’s death and account confusion. Continuous coverage notes no proven fraud yet.
Susan Porter and Saydie Haynes seek possession of 280 acres held by Moses Taylor under a West on bank deed. They claim Zebulon Fawcett owned the land and that Kilgore deeded it to secure bank debt, with Taylor farming and harvesting 27 000 bushels of wheat. Plaintiffs pray for title, back debt recovery from proceeds, and fair rental from Taylor’s occupancy.
