Photograph Mixup Highlights McComas of Union Oregon
The Portland Telegram ran a photo mislabeling EF S McComas, veteran mining broker of Union, as Mac Comas. The caption noted his flowing sideburns and Darwinian charm while detailing his early Union County steps, including teaching in Union and founding the Mountain Sentinel. It recounts his 22 mile trek from Idaho City and early mining ventures, from wood cutting to supplying settlers, and hints at legends of a rich quartz mine in the Wallowa mountains.
