Milton Suffered Major Fire at Peacock Mills

A Saturday night blaze in Milton, Oregon destroyed the Peacock Mills complex, two Farmers' Warehouse units, and two dwellings. About 150,000 bushels of wheat burned, with mill value estimated at 65,000 dollars and 20,000 in possible insurance. Fire departments from Freewater and Walla Walla fought the flames, with most grain losses uninsured. Weather and wind shifted, driving sparks toward Freewater before abating.
