Lee Ot Bridge Almost Done in Umatilla Project
The new steel bridge across the Umatilla River on Lee street will open to the public within two weeks, officials said after Chief Engineer Smith reported concrete abutments finished, steel received, and most of the metal ready to bolt in. Delayed steel shipments caused a contract extension, first payment was made by Mayor Murphy and Recorder FitzGerald, with concrete payment due today. Ranchers north of town and daily travelers welcome the completion, which ends riverbank access issues that forced use of the Main street bridge and steep hill road.
