The Senate approved the revised army appropriation bill in Washington on August 22. They struck Underwood's amendment barring minors from enlisting without parental consent and restored the Senate's articles of war revision, replacing Hayes' version that prompted President Wilson to veto the measure last week.
National Guard headquar ters in Calexico report a sentry duty lapse by Private Pickleheimer of Company L I Spokane. The staff officer warned a real war would bring execution. Lt Whitmore brought charges. Private Mark Robbins prosecuted. Private Nolan defended. The company acted as jury. Pickleheimer pleaded guilty and was sentenced to twelve spate and a ducking.
