Eight Men Reported Killed in Cajon Pass Wreck
San Bernardino August 17 eight men believed dead after a Santa Fe freight train of 67 cars ran away near Cajon Pass seven miles below Hesperia half the cars burned. Constable Dolph from Victorville reports to Coroner Van Wie the probable fatalities based on wreckage and the burned remains. Only one body was recovered as the train burned and identification seems unlikely.

Gilliam’s Body Bound for Walla Walla Burial
The body of the late Ben Gilliam, killed recently in Nevada, was transported today through here toward Walla Walla for burial. Accompanied by A. J. Hillman, the deceased was known to Sheriff Taylor and others for service as turnkey at the Walla Walla penitentiary and as deputy sheriff of Walla Walla county. He was regarded a very courageous officer.
