In Freewater on Aug 15 two masked men with revolvers robbed Keys saloon. They demanded hands up and collected about 150 to 160 dollars from till and patrons, then vanished into darkness. Victims describe the robbers as calm and experienced with no usable descriptions.
The O. R. and N. express office was rifled during the night and believed to be robbed by the same men who looted Keys saloon. No valuables were present, but the office was turned upside down and scattered with debris just before the saloon crime.
A water spout on the line between Huntington and Durkee halted all trains on the Oregon Railroad and Navigation Company route. No. 6 passed Pendleton at noon yesterday but was annulled. No. 1 due at 8:10 this morning is delayed with repairs expected this forenoon. Pendleton has seen no train since 12 yesterday.
Rail freight rates on wheat shipments to Pacific Coast terminals and Midwest points drop 10 percent effective today. The cut applies to shipments to Minneapolis, Duluth and Chicago, as well as Pacific Coast destinations, reducing railroad profits from wheat by about a quarter this year.
Work on the Oklahoma City and Western railroad reaches Lawton as practical completion extends 100 miles from Oklahoma City. Trains are expected to run between the two cities next week, with rapid progress toward completing the line from Quanah, Texas.
