Christian Science services held Sunday morning at 11 o clock with subject Soul. Wednesday evening services at 8 o clock in the Congregational building corner Webb and Johnson streets. Everyone invited. Church of the Redeemer notes no service tomorrow due to rector's absence.
First M E church led by Pastor T B Ford at 608 Johnson street with Sunday school at 10 and public services at 11. Pastor delivers sermon with class meeting to follow, Epworth League service at 7 and union services at 8. No evening service.
Union services at the Presbyterian church at p.m. with Rev. A. M. Meldrum of the Christian church preaching. Music by united choirs. Come and attend.
Baptist church at E Alta and Johnson streets under Rev R E Storey will hold morning services at 11 with the sermon The Bold Man s Reward from Hebrews 19 25 R V and special music by Miss Fraker organist Bible school at 9 45 with classes for all Union services will be held at the Presbyterian church in the evening Invitation extended to all services.
London Aug 14 passengers aboard the Mauretania include C K G Billings of Chicago and his party. He has been displaying his trotting horses in Germany Austria and Russia and presented all new winnings to the poor of the cities shown in. The Billings party includes Dr Frank and Mrs Billings.
An old advertisement promotes Hall's Catarrh Cure and Hall's Catarrh Co for catarrh with testimonials from Walding Kinnan & Marvin in Toledo. It claims 100 dollars reward, internal action on blood and mucous surfaces, price per bottle, and widespread sale. Also references a family pill for constipation.
In Linn county a July census shows 28 births recorded while death figures are not provided. The brief notes the birth total for the month and omits specific mortality data, reflecting a partial statistical snapshot from local records.
Notice states that Lillian M. Reed and J W Boyer dissolve their French restaurant partnership on Main Street Pendleton Oregon by mutual consent. Boyer will pay all debts and collect monies owed and continue to operate the business at the same location. Dated August 9 1909.

Washington August 14 Captain John H Poole superintendent of state war and navy building has been detailed to the army school at Fort Leavenworth to report tomorrow. Lieutenant Ulysses S Grant Third of the corps of engineers United States army will fill the vacancy. The assignment allows Grant to spend the winter in Washington with his wife Mrs Elihu Root and her parents Senator Elihu Root.

Sir Ralph Champena Williams will arrive in St Johns to assume Newfoundland governorship succeeding Sir William MacGregor who relinquished office and sails for England. Williams, former administrator of the Windward Islands, will face fisheries dispute with the United States and recent political upheavals.

In Balom Oregon on August 14 Walter W Johnson forced his way into the morgue and saw the mangled body of his nine year old son Ralph. The boy was found after a horse trampling incident near Fourteenth and State streets and died at the Willamette Sanitarium. Authorities cannot identify the body until the father recognized it. The horse involved has not yet been found.
Portland report says Mrs. Kate Van Winkle Collings, murderess of her husband R A Miles Collings, shows little improvement since transfer to Crystal Springs Sanitarium. Doctors note nervous strain. she will stay under care until physically able to endure jail confinement. County funds her maintenance.
Oakland-Alameda county pushes to land the Jeffries Johnson fight with local financiers backing a bid. Mel Moffitt leads the effort supported by wealthy backers who will go to the limit. An arena site at Fruitdale near Oakland is being optioned if the bid succeeds.
Investigations into Jacob Shearer’s death reveal a stash of $3800 in gold under his bed. Authorities will try to locate his mother in Switzerland. if unsuccessful, the money reverts to the county. No will or letters naming other relatives were found despite a systematic search.
The Twentieth Century Limited will extend to Boston tomorrow, reducing travel time to about twenty hours and thirty minutes between Boston and Chicago. The service was previously New York to Chicago only, now includes Boston.
