Indian Castes Check and Then Disappears
Vancouver Washington report states William C Bresette a quarter blood Indian service member in Battery A of light field artillery at Vancouver barracks cashed an $824.18 order from the Indian agent at La Point Wisconsin for his father's aid then disappeared. Authorities pursue him with no trace found. The loan was approved by the Indian department and Bresette, after signing, deposited funds at Citizens National Bank and drew nearly the full amount, lending it to soldiers. He was confined briefly in guardhouse at Grande after detection before payday when he left with much of the money. Bresette reportedly owns Indian land in Wisconsin valued around $6000. The bank was advised that the government would not reimburse but could settle by drawing on Bresette's account with the government. He is described as legally akin to a minor.
