Pendleton Keeps Local Baseball Team With Subscriptions

Pendleton businessmen vow to fund the Western Tri state league club to season end after unanimous support at a Commercial association meeting. Beat Sheriff and Escape from Train

Majave Cal August 7 In a fight on a Southern Pacific train between Majave and Beeville Chris and Chas White alleged train robbers escaped from Deputy Sheriff Gates of Los Angeles after beating him almost unconscious with his revolver and firing at the train crew. The prisoners manacled together raised the vestibule platform and dropped to the ground as the train ran 35 miles an hour. Gates pursues alone and a posse is being organized.

Suffragists Sentenced in Ireland for Theatre Fire Attempt

Dublin August 7 suffragists Mrs Mary Leleh and Miss Gladys Evans were jailed five years penal servitude for trying to burn Theatre Royal during Premier Asquith visit. Sentences are the harshest yet for militant suffragettes. Authorities vow to curb further violence by militants.

Former Pendleton Man Murdered at Bandon Beach

Jonathan Quick, a former Pendleton resident and father of Mrs. Mary Harvey and Miss Flora Quick, was killed at Bandon beach by 11 year old Perrine boy Victor Perrine from Roseburg. Quick had lived in Coquille since leaving Pendleton three to four years ago. The Perrine family were camping at the same site, and no witness saw the shooting. The boy reported the incident after the event, and his parents left the camp in charge while they walked.

Drunk suspect attacks officer at police station

Grant Selme, a transient described as a powerful Russian Finn, was arrested for intoxication and taken to the police station. He wrenched a club from Officer Hailey, knocked him down, and brutalized him before bystanders restrained him. Hailey, acting as night officer, sustained a fractured right arm, torn ear, head wound, and bruises. He is hospitalized. Selme is jailed awaiting charges in city or state courts.

No Complaints Against Pendleton Claim Denied

The governor's private secretary says Pendleton was not singled out for a clean up and that the Huntington crusade reference was a mistake.
