Business leaders threaten private lighting plants if rates remain high, arguing the current charges are unaffordable and harming the local economy.
Democratic Leader Underwood denounces Bryan as a falsifier while defending a steel revision claim. Republican standpatters say Taft will veto farmer bills, risking an abrupt session end if sent. The US Britain arbitration treaty and the French treaty set for signing in the White House historic room with Knox and Bryce. Taft plans to send them to the Senate for ratification soon.

He was fed through a drill pipe and spoke with his mother via a temporary telephone. Rescuers finally pierced the drift with a fourth drill hole and heard him call for food before the escape.
At last night’s meeting the Commercial club agreed to join with Hermiston in inviting Secretary Fisher to visit the Umatilla project lands west of the Umatilla river. The invitation comes as Fisher plans a west Alaska trip and would inspect the proposed extension.

Cameron of Winnipeg sworn in as lieutenant governor of Manitoba to succeed Sir Daniel McMillan. The veteran business man previously stood for parliament on the Herald ticket and was defeated by Alex Hageert by about 1500 votes in the last general election. Sir McMillan's five year term expired by limitation.
