Harriman Freight Exemption Bid Faces Interstate Hearing

The Spokane freight rate clash heats to a hearing before the Interstate Commerce Commission as Harriman seeks exemption from the commission order. Union Pacific aims to withdraw freight from Chicago and St Paul to Spokane, arguing distance and terrain ruin profitability. The move is seen by some as a bluff to sway Spokane rate decisions, while Great Northern and Northern Pacific push for extended compliance time and amended tariffs. Baker City and Pendleton would likely receive similar rates if applicable, with F C Dillar noted for Harriman representation.
