Dry land lands in Idaho spark desert land ruling
A Boise Statesman report notes Oneida county entrymen press the Blackfoot land office ruling in Neilson v. Jorgensen. Dry farming crops like wheat seed and canal water enable decent harvests, challenging desert land status and potentially canceling desert entries under the Smoot dry farm bill. Attorneys J H Peterson and John Jones argued for the contestee and contestant respectively. The Boise office previously ruled against the same issue, while local officials upheld Neilson. Vast acreage in Oneida county could be affected if the decision is sustained on appeal.
