Charles Robb assistant attorney general of Vermont was appointed assistant attorney general for the post office department this morning. He succeeds General Tyner who was dismissed after his wife allegedly appropriated official letters from his department.
Pendleton high schools and Baker City Union meet in Pendleton on May 7 for an oratorical contest judged solely on delivery. The next day May 8 at Walla Walla the interacademic contest features Pendleton’s William representing with “The Unknown Speaker.” A regional Northeast Oregon and Southeast Washington field meet follows in Walla Walla. Mayor Tom Johnson of Cleveland says he will not seek the presidency but may pursue Ohio governor.

The Purl Bowman building will rise this summer on the block between Mary and Garden streets facing Railroad. It will span 60 by 00 feet, two stories with a basement, and house a hotel and rooms upstairs with business shops on the lower floor, per plans outlined in the Kast Oregonian.
