Spokane April 24. Richard Aleck a 7 year old Russian? allegedly shot EF Rothrock city editor of the Spokane Chronicle after entering the editor’s room with a concealed pistol while a rumor of libel spread. Aleck, held by staff, later confessed he sought a retraction for a supposed slander. The slain editor was 56, a Stanford graduate and longtime Chronicle worker. His wife is gravely ill. Authorities say Aleck is feigning insanity and appeared drunk.
