Old rifle unearthed near Wallula recalls Oregon frontier days
Lee Moorehouse possesses an ancient cap and ball rifle found by Bowman near Old Wallula on the immigrant road to Walla Walla. The relic, with powder horn and caps, suggests a death at a Indian fight or lone attack. Preservation is excellent, no maker marks, likely tied to 1847 or 1854 conflicts. Moorehouse plans to send the gun to the Oregon Historical Society in Portland.
