Northwest Texas land being divided into small tracts
Frank Hastings, former Armour Packing manager now at S. M. 8 ranch near Stamford, says Northwest Texas is rapidly being settled. Swensen Bros plan to market the Spur ranch in Dickens County, 431000 acres with 36000 cattle. Land sells for 15 to 20 dollars an acre in small tracts to encourage settlement and closer towns. Stamford has grown to about 6000 residents and shipped 40000 bales of cotton last year. An acre yields about three fourths of a bale, cattle-grazing land loses value, and emigrants arrive in large numbers, with 195 train cars bringing two families each into Stamford in December and January.
