Birthday of oldest pensioner Hiram Cronk
Hiram H. Cronk, the last surviving pensioner of the War of 1812, celebrated his 106th birthday on April 1 at his farm near Ava New York, living with daughter Mrs. Sarah A. Rowley. Born April 19, 1890 in Herkimer County, Cronk enlisted at 14, served in the New York volunteers, and helped defend Sackett's Harbor. his pension rose from $12 to $26 monthly three years ago.
