Relics of Whitman Millstones Found in Colville River
The Stevens County sheriff recovered nether millstone fragments from the Colville river bed now housed in the Memorial building. Presiding officials state Whitman chiseled these granite discs around 1838 for a Pacific coast grist mill, with iron frame remnants. The find enriches Whitman college museum lore and Northwest early history.
