In Los Angeles on April 11 Mrs Kate P Raymonds killed her young son Frank in a locked room, then attempted suicide by turning on the gas. Police report a child death suspected from foul play and a failed self-harm attempt by the mother.
A 14 year old girl in Hollywood attempted death by gas by locking herself in a room. The husband, Frank K. Raymond of the interior department in Washington, declares the woman insane and a county hospital has been asked to hear a complaint. She previously tried to chloroform a boy a year ago and has suffered from melancholia for years. She does not know she is under arrest and reportedly smiled at the news of the boy’s death. An insanity complaint was filed two years ago but not served.
The Interstate Commerce Commission reviewed contracts and by laws of the Tidewater Steam and Bituminous Coal Traffic Association. Key signatories include President Roberts of the Pennsylvania, Receiver Gow of the B&O, President Ingalls of the C&O, and President Chauncey Depew of the New York Central. Walter Arnold, son of the late J F Arnold, was arrested by Marshal Gurdane for stealing a pocketbook from a stranger in the Brewery saloon last night. He confessed, was jailed, and implicated two accomplices. The purse held about 25 dollars. He was taken before District Attorney Phelps on larceny charges and jailed. Guardian Wood Furnish administers the estate.
A salt of unusual magnitude began in circuit court as Maxwell Irrigation Company sues L. W. Furnas and others over land valued at 19000 dollars. The land is located in the unl section west of here near Hermiston. W A Peters and R J Slater represent the plaintiff.
