John H. White, owner of the buffalo herd on Antelope Island near Salt Lake, reports the herd is at President Roosevelt’s disposal with his rifle for the visit next month. The move accompanies Roosevelt’s planned appearance during April.
The Atlas steamer Allegheny reports from Kingston that on March 22 a volcano eruption in Deltirra Firma Colombia destroyed Tiojo village, with 60 to 100 dead. The eruption was observed up to 60 miles at sea as news arrived in New York.
About 75 Chinese pheasants, touted as the finest game birds, will be released in the Condon Foss and Wheeler country regions this season. Gillam and Wheeler sportsmen have pledged $200 to buy specimens, to be strictly protected until populations grow. The rough stock districts in the three counties are expected to support the pheasants' welfare.

A preliminary iplan of Shamrock I and Lipton in the Erin followed by Lipton's steam yacht Erin this morning. They ran seven miles before the wind with Shamrock I leading for 40 minutes after the wind shifted. Shamrock II soon closed the gap and outdialanced the challenger. The main feat of the new challenger will be made Saturday.
Chicago election report shows Garter H. Harrison elected mayor for the fourth time with a 42 vote margin over Graeme Stewart. Republicans also win city attorney and clerk posts while Democrats gain treasurer. City council split 35 Republicans, 38 Democrats, one Independent Democrat.
In Montana towns results show Socialists winning in Anaconda and Red Lodge while Democrats sweep Livingston Butte and surrounding areas. Mayor election undecided. Henry Mueller leads Pat Mullins for mayoral vote with about 197 ballots reported. Leamy the socialist sits third with Duggan fourth in provisional counts.
In Wallowa Oregon the People's ticket of prominent locals opposes the Citizens' Choice ticket. Candidates include Mayor L Stokes. councilmen J H Maxwell Henry Gerber J A Lanman George Hemmell. treasurer C W Mumford. recorder J L Maxwell. Election is next Tuesday with heavy registration and strong representative vote anticipated. Each ticket emphasizes municipal interests as its main plank.
Detroit April 8 report shows the re witiicon club ticket winning by margins from 56 000 to 46 000. Judge Frank A. Hooker Charlotte leads for supreme court, Peter White Marquette and E Knappen Grand Rapids for regents. Battle Creek sees Socialist party campaign. Mayor Webb Republican wins by large margin. Escanaba elects socialist labor party mayor, and socialists gain aldermen elsewhere.

Owen & Company, a leading Chicago wholesale druggist firm, assigned in district court this morning with liabilities of 762000 and assets of 515000. A receiver was appointed with bonds set at 500000.

Sheriff Lovin plus deputies from Vizalia and Inyo close in while others head toward Needles. A brother reportedly lives at Randsburg. San Bernardino officials join the chase.
David Lawrence of Welser Idaho drowned yesterday morning in the Snake River six miles below Welser when his boat with two companions capsized. The other two men were saved by skiers. Lawrence attempted to reach shore and sank likely from cramps. He was a longtime resident of Washington County and had recent ties to the Seven Devils area. He leaves a wife and several children. body not recovered.
Baker City records that the Sumpter Valley railway has ordered 400 tons of 40 pound rails for a 12 mile winter extension beyond Whitney the current terminus. General Manager Joseph Barton is in Portland obtaining graders as surveys from Whitney to Canyon City set the path toward reaching Canyon City.
Two bandits broke into Gus Behren’s saloon in La Grande around 2 a.m. by removing a back wine dow, escaped before night watch arrived, and only a small amount of cash was taken from the drawer.
