Fire destroys Oregon Hotel in Condon flare
A blaze at the Oregon Hotel in Condon Oregon early today destroyed the building with a loss around 7000 dollars. The fire began in the laundry room and the entire structure burned within two minutes. Lodgers fled in their night clothing and two waitresses in a third story window were found. Gertrude Hjortas died after being overcome by heat and smoke as rescue attempts failed. The cause remains unknown.

Wayne W. Wiley former superintendent of Athena schools died in San Diego California on Sunday from tuberculosis after years of illness. The body will be shipped to Portland for funeral services later this week. Wiley a well known state schoolman graduated from the state normal in 1902 and had served as county superintendent of Tillamook county and Newberg city superintendent. He is survived by his wife and four children. Superintendent Howard Drew who followed him at Athena is his brother in law.
