Pendleton Wool Market Opens With Strong Prices
The Pendleton Mille buys about 256000 pounds of wool at 12 and 12.5 cents a pound as shearing begins in the region. Coffin Brothers sell 48000 pounds to Oregon City mills at 12 cents, and Cameron brothers’ clip sells at the same rate. Eastern forecasts of lower prices are doubted by locals who expect market strength if not higher. Trade views vary on the quality of Yakima wool and overall demand, with optimism for a better or at least steady season ahead.
