A San Francisco lodging house at 14 Connecticut Street burned in the early hours, killing 16 to 20 Italians and injuring many others. Policeman awareness and fireman William Cole's rescue attempts helped save some. The proprietor's wife, Mrs. B. Firth, was among the dead, as families mourned amid chaos and flame.
Marshal Tom C Gurdane prepared a detail on a exhibit shown at the Mewlihy enc and Hawleby sec featuring a voided assortment of items seized by police. The Washington Children's Home society seeks funds for a new 25000 dollar home in Seattle on a three acre site donated by a Seattle citizen. Mrs E J Barrie in North Yakima reports this week’s effort to raise the balance after 13000 dollars already secured. The national organization has placed 70000 children since its 20 year history, aiding Christian homes nationwide. Funds may be sent to the Washington Children’s Home Society in Seattle or to Mrs Fore.
The 16 day old child of Mr and Mrs Charles Ambrose died last night at the family home in the east end. Funeral service held this afternoon with interment at Olney cemetery. Also noting that Union county school apportionment totals 21 574 50 for the year.
E G Smith and Jack McLaughlin resign from Pendleton O R and N posts. Smith leaves to take no announced plan, while McLaughlin accepts Illinois Central traveling freight and passenger agent role in Portland, with agency duties here ending immediately. Herman Warner also known as Bunky Jin suffered a broken leg when a barrel was moved into the St George restaurant basement by means of a plank. Dra Cole and Ringo assisted and he was to be taken to the county hospital for care.
