Hospital bombing hits Amoy field in China
The Changchow Hospital of the Reformed Church in Amoy was bombed by the Japanese on August 18. Fifteen Chinese clinic patients were killed and six others seriously wounded. Dr. Richard Hofstra of Chicago and nurse Miss Jessie Platz of Closter New Jersey were present. Platz was slightly wounded. This marks the first loss of life in hospital bombings, and the hospital’s edge location suggests it was a target. Domestic news notes mission work among migrants with Rev. Emmett B. Waite appointed for the Southeastern area, and the Board of Domestic Missions reports success in summer youth conferences. A new series of lesson helps from the Board of Education is being introduced, with an autumn trek to brief Eastern Synods and Classis activities.
