Next Reunion At Pella For Civil War 33rd Regiment
At the recent reunion of the 33rd Town civil war veterans in Oskaloosa, it was unanimously decided to hold the next gathering at Pella. Marion county members elected officers including President Stephen De Cook and Vice President Martin Englesma, with Gerrit Vander Kamp as secretary and Mrs. Thomas W. Cox as treasurer, all of Pella. About 135 of 300 survivors attended. Pella’s long history with the 33rd is noted, with many from Pella enlisted and more likely to have served in the regiment. Some veterans have passed away since the last meeting, but reunions remain worthwhile as long as comrades remain. The tail end notes that regimental reunions may soon fade, and Pella is proud to host the 38rd reunion in two years.
