Unbiased letters reveal Marion pool history and profits
A Marion Iowa letter dated August 11 1981 explains the American Legion Post pool project begun in 1930. It notes a 10 foot deep diving area and a shallow children’s section, with 30 000 patrons in 1980 and net profits around 4 870. By July 1981 about 15 000 in stock debt remained, with 40 000 to 60 000 patrons expected this season and continued cross‑town and cross‑region patronage boosting business even as future gains remain uncertain.
